“Named for the patron saint of surveyors and Greek mathematician Euclid, South Euclid became its own entity in 1828. Its population has steadily grown ever since, as the 1920 census recorded 1,605 residents, and over 100 years later the estimated population sits at 21,297. It is a suburb of Cleveland, located 15 miles east of the city, and is reachable by car in 24 minutes. South Euclid covers a land area of 4.66 square miles and is part of the east side of the Greater Cleveland area. Steve Stone, the former Cubs, and White Sox pitcher who won the Cy Young Award in 1980 grew up in South Euclid. 

South Euclid presents a sparse suburban feel and is racially integrated. It’s ranked as the #8 most diverse suburb in Ohio, where white people make up 54.1% of the population, and African Americans make up 40.1%. It’s diverse when it comes to income levels (where the population is at the national average) and education levels (where the population is also at the national average). It’s right on par with the national averages for median age (38) and the percentage of people with children under the age of 18 (42%). If America is a melting pot, South Euclid is a reflection of that.

When it comes to working, the median household income is $61,078, and the most common employment industries are health care and social assistance (22.7%), educational services (11.3%), and retail trade (11.1%). Manufacturing (9.65%) and professional, scientific, and technical services (6.37%) round out the list.
