” In an odd Ohio naming quirk, Perry Township in Lake County, Ohio is one of 26 Perry Townships in the state. This particular Perry Township sits 36 miles northeast of Cleveland on the shore of Lake Erie. It’s a 38-minute drive from the city, and home to 8,999 residents. The township occupies 151. 8 square miles, most of which (128.5 square miles) is water. Inside Perry Township are the centrally located village of Perry and another village to the north, the aptly named North Perry.
The vast majority of residents (89.1%) own their own homes and the median age is 42.8. The median household income is $65,000 and most of the residents (6,169 out of 8,999) are aged 25 or older.
The township’s government consists of three elected officials serving four-year terms who form a board of trustees, and an elected fiscal officer. The trustees are the overarching governing body of Perry Township and work together to decide on issues of township policy. The trustees and fiscal officers are also responsible for all allocations of township funds.
There’s much to do for recreation in Perry Township. First up is the Lake Erie Bluffs which offer walking trails for hiking along the shores of Lake Erie and a four-story observation deck to get a glimpse of the lake in the morning or a sunset in the evening. Next up is a state park called the Lakeshore Reservation which offers more hiking trails along the lake and is home to some spectacular foliage in the fall. And finally, there’s the R.J. Few Arboretum, which showcases some of the trees native to Perry Township, including some weeping trees that provide an enchanting “tent” effect. ” – Perry Township
