    About Fairport Harbor Ohio

“Nestled on the shore of Lake Erie and above the mouth of the Grand River, Fairport Harbor is a small, quaint village and not lacking in charm. Living up to its name, it is a harbor town through and through, featuring a beautiful beach and two lighthouses.

A uniquely shaped white square building, the Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Light was built in 1925. In 1992 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Grand River (Fairport Harbor) Light was built in 1871 and decommissioned in 1925. It is made of worn grey brick and stands 60 feet tall, with a detached keeper’s house. It has since been converted into the Fairport Harbor Marine Museum and Lighthouse and is open to the public.

Considered by Coastal Living to be the best beach in the state of Ohio, Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park is open to families year-round. Visitors can take a stroll on the Harbor View Boardwalk, which is outfitted with wooden benches and picnic tables, offering people an opportunity to sit and enjoy the harbor. In the evenings, views of the lighthouse and sunset can dazzle any spectators who happen to catch a glimpse of it.

For those eager to learn, the Finnish Heritage Museum is housed in a red brick building that formerly served as the village town hall and was opened in 2007. It is a nonprofit organization that aims to retain and uphold Finnish culture and traditions. Residents can cap off scenic summer days at the beach with some delectable seafood at multiple locally-owned restaurants downtown.” – Fairport Harbor
