Rocky River

Bordered on the north and east by water, Rocky River, Ohio is a suburb of Cleveland located in Cuyahoga County. It sits on the shores of Lake Erie, and just west of the Rocky River, which is where it got its name. It’s 12 miles west of Cleveland, and a short 19-minute drive away from the city. Rocky River covers a land area of 5.6 square miles and is home to 20,198 residents. It is the hometown of the late former owner of the New York Yankees George Steinbrenner, as well as former NFL defensive tackle Chris Hovan.

Rocky River is an ideal place for families, as the quality of the schools is exceptional, the crime rate is low (86% below the state average), and the advanced education levels of the populace (59% have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to the national average of 32%) are impressive. The higher education levels have boosted citizens’ earnings as the median household income checks in at $74,950, which is $12,000 above the national average. The most common industries employing the city’s workforce are health care and social assistance (17.3%), manufacturing (11.6%), and professional, scientific, and technical services (10.3%).

There’s much to do in Rocky River for the outdoorsy. For the fortunate few there’s the Westwood Country Club, a private golf course with exquisitely manicured fairways and delectable food. If relaxing by the water is more your speed, there’s the Rocky River Park which sits on Lake Erie and offers a beach, some shade trees, a pavilion, and a playground.
